Used exclusively on automatic doors, a function switch is a user-accessible switch that can control the function of a door. 99% of the time, each automatic door will have its own function switch. Switches can look many different ways. Some may be rocker style switches, rotary switches (with a knob), switches with an LCD panel, or keyed switches.
Switches are used to select pre-programmed settings for a door such as: hold open, entry-only, hold closed, etc. Apollo has received service/repair calls from clients where the “fix” was simply checking the function switch and returning it to the “automatic” setting.
Analogy: It’s the equivalent of a cellphone user reporting that their phone don’t receive calls when the user left the phone on “do not disturb” mode by accident.

A note about quality and sources
Function switches for automatic doors are available directly from manufacturers, through licensed resellers (like Apollo Doors), and more recently though big box retailers like Amazon.com or Walmart. The source of your parts will affect their performance. Before assuming the big box version will perform well for your door, ask a door pro first. We’re always happy to give you an honest opinion.
